Scuba Dive the Great Barrier Reef The best way to experience the Great Barrier Reef is to become one of the fish, and enter the world of scuba diving.
You will enter a spectacular world of colour and marine life, with gardens that bloom under the sea. Scuba divers will get a chance to interact with Green Sea Turtles or our friendly resident giant Maori Wrasse "Wally" during their scuba diving adventures.
Introductory Divers Reef Experience includes an introductory dive in the price of your trip so it's a great time to experience the absolute magic of the Great Barrier Reef - the vibrant colours of the marine life and coral are truly outstanding.
So what's involved .... on the way to the Great Barrier Reef our friendly experience dive instructors will run you through the basics of scuba diving - we call this an introductory dive briefing.
Every person who visits the Great Barrier Reef is required to complete a medical form - you can download this form right now so you can know in advance if you will be able to participate in a introductory dive. The dive instructor will talk to you about Underwater swimming technique, Equalising your ears, hand signals that are relevant to Introductory dives. All introductory dives are completed with a qualified dive instructor and a maximum of 4 people to a maximum depth of 12 metres
Children need to be 12 years old before they can participate in an introductory dive.
Dive Masters gently roll student down into the water where the dive instructor is waiting
Students are asked to face the back dive platform (duckboard)
Underneath the duck board is a rail which is specifically for introductory divers. Students are asked to place their head under the water with the dive regulator in their mouth until they feel comfortable at this time the dive instructor will make sure that the students ears are okay equalizing, that their mask is clear, they will do regulator removal and replacement, Emergency ascent procedures. Inflations' of buoyancy compensator / ditching of weight belt on the surface and hand signals - this might all sound a bit daunting before you are actually in the water prepared for an introductory dive - please remember you will be with a highly qualified dive instructor who will be sure to make you feel very comfortable with all of the procedures.
It's safe, it's easy and it's a lot of fun you really won't believe the wonderful colours of the Great Barrier Reef.
An introductory dive does not give you any qualification if you are like loads of other people and decide that the magic of diving is for you we can organise to get you certified on our liveaboard vessel Reef Encounter for MORE INFORMATION.

In October 1979 John VandenHeuvel our Managing Director started teaching introductory diving on Daydream Island in the Whitsundays and in March 1984 on Green Island in Cairns
Many people tried to stop John from teaching introductory dives - thankfully he didn't give up and now thousands of people experience the magic of an introductory dive under the supervision of an experienced dive instructor on the Great Barrier Reef every year.
